A practical guide to Crazy Eights

Read the position before choosing your next action. Empty your hand by matching the active suit or the top card’s rank. Eights let you choose the next suit. Try the rule on the board, then read the next instruction. Each player starts with five cards from a standard 52-card deck. The starting discard is not an eight. Try the rule on the board, then read the next instruction.

Two-player free play with a local computer opponent. No draw-two stacking or reverse cards. A refreshed page starts a new round.

Bring this focus to a round

Take a moment to check the current turn. After an eight, match the called suit or play another eight. The eight’s printed suit is not the active suit. Try the rule on the board, then read the next instruction.

The purpose of your moves

Begin with the basic rule, then follow the result of your action. Empty your hand by matching the active suit or the top card’s rank. Eights let you choose the next suit. Keep the goal in mind before your next move.

Work through the instructions

  1. Each player starts with five cards from a standard 52-card deck. The starting discard is not an eight.
  2. Play one matching card. An eight is always playable; choose its suit using the suit selector before tapping the card.
  3. After an eight, match the called suit or play another eight. The eight’s printed suit is not the active suit.
  4. Draw one card at a time when needed. Drawing does not end your turn; keep drawing or play a legal card.
  5. The stock is not recycled. With no stock and no legal card, pass. Two consecutive passes end the round in a draw.
  6. The first empty hand wins. New round deals again.

Choosing and moving on screen

Use the controls beside the game rather than guessing the rules. Tap a playable card. Set the suit selector before playing an eight. Draw and Pass have separate buttons. The game area remains available above the explanation.

An example to follow

Take a moment to check the current turn. If 5♣ is on top, you can play another club, another five, or any eight. Calling hearts with an eight makes hearts the active suit. Keep the goal in mind before your next move.

Check this before moving on

Do not assume that every eight keeps its printed suit. The called suit is shown beside the discard pile. Keep the goal in mind before your next move.
